Sculpturing with wool fibres and a felt needle is great fun!
What I enjoy in particular is the use of colourful fibres, blended together in all kinds of different shades. Then I shaped the coloured wool fibres with the barbed felt needle. I either shaped the wool fibres on their own or by covering a core wool basis which has already been sculptured into a certain shape. I had started this dragon with a corser, white core wool, creating the body. Then I used a blend of wool fibres which I had karded from shades of green merino wool fibres to needle felt over the white back, tale, neck and head. Afterwards I sculptured the face, the mouth, eyes, nose, teeth and little horns. As it is a fire dragon, not to forget the flames which are coming out of the dragon’s nose. 🔥 The feet were made purely of this green merino wool fibres without the core wool.
For the wings I have used a karded blend of purple shades and a little pink merino wool fibres. No core wool was used for the wings. They are light, and a bit of wind makes them moving 😀 I covered the dragon’s belly with the purple wool fibres and needle felted the wings on the body. I like the colour combination of green and purple shades with the orange-red flames. All are secondary colours compared to primary colours. At last the triangular slightly spiky shapes for the back and tale where needle felted separately and then needle felted on the dragon.
When I create one of those magical, mystical beings I connect with them as I go along during the felting process. I really enjoy bringing those beings into existences!
